Empowering the nation through education

True education shines in the beauty of the spirit and of highest wisdom. It is effulgence that permeates a full life and that which leads every human towards attainment of his real nature through purification and sublimation of his consciousness. This inspiration cannot be got through the mere perusal of books and acquisition of a pre-determined set of skills. Learning without intensive culture of the spirit proves barren.
“The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom,” said the famous American writer, Isaac Asimov. The modern educational system is producing students with information-based knowledge, rather than transformational knowledge. This has resulted in overt acts of violence; unrest; lack of peace and understanding, in the society. Thus, any amount of knowledge transfer will not be successful, if it does not help with translating values into a daily reality. What the world needs today is neither a new order, a new society nor a new education. The remedy lies in a mind and in a heart filled with goodness. Educare is the only solution. ‘Educare’ in latin means to draw out the values which are inherent in students to make them whole. The culmination of the best educational process happens when it leads to the realisation of one’s full potential and the ability to use those skills for the greater good. Education is that which liberates. It is a journey within.

Integral System of Education completely free of cost

Baba’s integral system of education is contributing its might to the cause of nation building by creating strong individuals with wonderful synthesis of competent Hands, brilliant Heads and compassionate Hearts, the 3H formula – the trinity which makes a true human being. Prashanthi Balamandira Trust is a public charitable Trust that was established in the year 1981 and embedded firmly on the principles of Sri Sathya Sai Baba towards rendering selfless service to the needy. It offers values-based integral education with a unique blend of spiritual and intellectual education to empower students from rural India. To further the cause of nation building, the alumni of Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Educational Institutions at Alike and Muddenahalli came together to start Sri Sathya Sai Saraswathi Education Trust in October 2011.

The Trusts impart values-based education absolutely free of cost to every child without any discrimination, with greater emphasis on spiritual education. The Trusts work incessantly towards establishing world class educational infrastructure in rural India with first priority to needy rural children. 5,000 boys and girls from the rural strata of society are benefitting from free values-based integral education at top notch architectural edifices, absolutely free of cost across *38 Institutions, 28 Campuses in 20 districts of Karnataka and one in Telangana and one in Tamil Nadu.

Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence - Kalaburagi

Baba’s philosophy stands on the human values of Sathya (Truth), Dharma (Right conduct), Shanti (Peace), Prema (Love), and Ahimsa (Non-Violence), which highlights the oneness of all existence, and is the highest spiritual wisdom. Inspired by the ancient Indian way of education that caters to all aspects of human development with spiritual evolution at its very core, the Prashanthi Balamandira Trust(R), Chikkaballapur has established the Sri Sathya Sai University For Human Excellence at Navanihal Village, Kamalapur Taluk, Kalaburagi District in Karnataka (a Private University established under Karnataka Legislative Act 2018). The University will encapsulate values-based integral education in a unique residential environment.

Way Forward for your child in Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam

The last 50 years of our Institution have produced some of the finest citizens of this country and we are proud of that legacy. This has made our Institutions extremely popular, which is reflected in the very large number of applications received for admission every year. So, the important question we asked ourselves is: should we rest on these laurels or should we look ahead and create the road map for the next 50 to 100 years. The obvious answer has been to look ahead, while the lessons of the past guide us.
One of the important changes that human society has seen in the past 50 years has been the way we access and process information. While on one side, the need to learn and upgrade and expand the curriculum continuously to match the changing global scenarios has brought newer technologies and opened up new fields of knowledge, on the other hand, the obsoleteness of some of the old ways of learning and teaching, which cause undue pressure on the children of writing too many exams, long cumbersome lesson plans, and strain due to severe competition, has only created more dissatisfaction within young children. This has led to very little scope for the development of other aspects of their personality including, pursuing their passions, choosing subjects of their liking, and taking alternate professions than to simply follow the herd.
The emotional, mental and spiritual aspect of the child’s personality has been compromised in the name of intellectual brilliance. This has lead to a lopsided approach to education and has proven disastrous for the happiness of the child in question.

As you would agree, the focus at the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Group of Institutions has always been on “Academic Excellence” with good grounding through “Education in Spiritual and Moral Values”. But in the coming 50 to 100 years, we are more than convinced that the child, parent, society and the world would benefit only if there is a far greater emphasis on recognising the child as a whole and not just as someone pursuing merely academic excellence with moral and spiritual input. Hence, the need for equal attention to all aspects of personality development like intellectual, emotional, cultural, moral and most importantly spiritual development, along with academic excellence. This philosophy will be reflected in the changes we are proposing now, which will ensure an equal focus on all aspects of the child’s holistic development.
With these facts in mind, we started exploring the education boards of India which could be best suited for the ideals that we strongly believe in. Based on considerable research conducted by our experts and educationists, we have determined that aligning to the “National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)” system is the best match for our Institutions, going forward. The NIOS will help us achieve the goal of making “Spiritual and Moral Values”, “Academic Excellence” and other aspects of the child’s personality development, with equal importance in our schools.
Accordingly, a decision has been made to align all our educational institutions to the “National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)”. This exciting change will come into effect, whenever our Institutions begin to operate for the current academic year (2020-21). This change does not apply to the students of grade 10 and 12, who are scheduled to write public examinations in March 2021. They will write their examinations in Karnataka State / Central Boards.

Further, this new shift requires renaming our Institutions to match the intention and the implementation, therefore henceforth, we would be known as, “Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam (SSSLSG)”- The word Gurukulam has been carefully chosen, as it best describes our philosophy.
